I have been professionally copying and transcribing music since 1995 for clients from all over the world.
In 2002, I started using the music notation program Sibelius & since then I have done work ranging from lead sheets for singers to scoring and parts for full orchestras and jazz big bands.
I've worked with a varied clientele. They include the Diva Jazz Orchestra, the New York Pops Orchestra, Freddy Cole, Marlena Shaw, Ann Hampton Callaway & Butch Morris. I've also copied early classical music & and works for gospel choir.
Tommy Newsom (sax
player & arranger from the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson) gave me
valuable pointers about copying etiquette, and based on his advice, you
will find that I am not just a copyist, but a proofreader as well.
I also give private Sibelius lessons to musicians who are interested in improving their own copying skills. Some of the musicians who have had private Sibelius lessons include Harvie S, Virginia Mayhew, John diMartino & Mary Ann McSweeney. I am a fast worker and many of
my past clients have come for lessons so they can do their own
charts faster!
Click on the music copying examples below. As you can
see, there are many different fonts and options you can choose from.
They will be tailored to how you would personally like your music to
look - ranging from a traditional classical look to handwritten style jazz fonts with your choice of anywhere in between.
Vocal Lead Sheet - Handwritten style
Printing - I can print hard copies of varying sizes on my laser
printer here. The sizes of paper I have available are - 8.5 x 11, 9 x
12 (Concert size), 9.5 x 12.5 (part size - like the old music paper
size) and 11 x 17 for scores. I print on 67lb weight paper (cover stock
weight) which helps your parts last a long time and they don't fall off
music stands like regular lightweight paper. They are taped together along the length of the back spine.
If you would like a CD of PDFs as well, that can be included and if you would like only PDFs, they can be made in any size so you can print parts yourself.
Rates - Please email me for more info and
examples of the work I do. If you would like an estimate, fax or scan
and email a copy of your music so I can give a realistic estimate. The
hourly rate is $40 per hour and there is a discount for large jobs over 10 hours. Hard copies have an extra printing cost to cover paper and ink of 14c per page.
